The USC spring game wrapped up on Saturday and over 33,000 Trojan fans packed the Coliseum to get their first glimpse of the team under their new head coach, Lincoln Riley. The 33,247 fans in attendance set a Trojans’ spring game record. Following the game, Riley spoke with ESPN’s Molly McGrath how the Trojans were still not done bringing in key pieces from the transfer portal.

“Well, we’ve got to add some numbers, we know that,” Riley said. “But, I’ll tell you what, the guys right here, we can go win a lot of games with. I love the way that they’ve fought. We’ll add some key pieces here in the next several weeks. But these guys have set the foundation and that’s what matters.”

It will be interesting to see what other top tier prospects Riley reels in from the transfer portal. He already reeled in the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect in the transfer portal according to the 2022 On3 Transfer Portal Rankings, Caleb Williams. Not only that, the former Oklahoma head coach also had one of his top-tier receivers follow him to USC, Mario Williams. The gifted wide receiver was rated as the No. 6 wideout in the transfer portal, according to the 2022 On3 Transfer Portal Rankings. Speaking of Caleb Williams and Mario Williams–the two connected for a touchdown in the spring game.

Lincoln Riley gave his thoughts on the game and the quarterbacks

Following the game, Lincoln Riley also discussed his thoughts on the game and his thoughts on his two signal-callers.

“It was fun. It was fun,” Riley said. “I thought the guys handled it well. Offense played pretty good in the first half. Defense came out and played really well in the second half. I’d say that’s pretty representative of what it’s been all spring. It’s been really competitive and I can’t say enough about how the guys have bought in here so far.”

Then he spoke a little bit about the play of his quarterbacks.

“I thought they both played pretty well,” said Riley. “Played within themselves. Had a couple of opportunities in the second half that we missed. But we were pretty sharp. Caleb [Williams] had a really good start. Miller [Moss] played pretty well throughout it. Threw a beautiful fade ball there to Kyle Ford. So, it was fun to watch.”

Both Trojans’ signal-callers looked sharp in the game. Caleb Williams completed 10 of his 12 passing attempts for 98 yards, while tossing two touchdowns. Miller Moss completed 15 of his 20 passing attempts for 169 yards and one touchdown.

The USC Trojans kick off their 2022-2023 campaign against the Rice Owls on Saturday, Sept. 3. The game will be played in Los Angeles, California in the Coliseum.
