Miller Moss details how much he's grown in Lincoln Riley's offense, what it means for 2024
Miller Moss isn’t the starter, but he’s still improving. The redshirt sophomore QB recently revealed how much he’s grown since his freshman year.
“I don’t know if you’re coming to answers faster. I think you’re just asking different questions. Without giving too much of Coach Riley’s playbook, I just think your thought processes are different. As you begin to understand more information, you can even take in more things to think about. You know where to check. You know where the line is going.
“It’s not like, ‘OK, this is a run to the right.’ It’s like, ‘OK, I have these linemen pulling. This is good against this pressure. If I get weak side rotation, I’m checking this,'” Moss said. “It’s just like different questions that you start asking. That’s the biggest thing for me.”
Quietly learning
Moss hasn’t had many opportunities to learn on game days. Stuck behind Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams, Moss is USC‘s backup for now. Nonetheless, in his limited playing time, he’s shown promise.
In seven appearances, Moss has 20 completions for 233 yards and touchdowns. Moreover, Moss is yet to throw an interception in his collegiate career. Those familiar with the Los Angeles native shouldn’t be surprised. Moss exited high school as a four-star prospect and the No. 11 quarterback in the Class of 2021.

While Moss doesn’t expect to outshine Williams, he still prepares just as diligently.
“One thing that really helped me is game planning every week. You have to learn a new game plan every week, obviously. It’s much more in-depth than it was in my true freshman year. It isn’t just, ‘Throw it to the open guy,'” Moss said with a laugh.
The future of Miller Moss
Although Moss’ name isn’t currently making headlines, it might not be long before he’s the next highly-touted Lincoln Riley product. With Williams expected to turn pro as the projected No. 1 overall pick next year, Moss appears to be the frontrunner next in line for the throne. And he’s doing everything he can to be ready when his time comes.
“My biggest focus right now is helping us win games. Obviously, I want to put myself in the best possible position I can to succeed. And I think in putting our team in the possible position to win, I’ll do that for myself,” Moss said.
“I’ve really just been trying to invest time with the younger guys, making sure they’re up to speed and getting everything I can out of my own game. I’m very excited for what the future holds and what that looks like.”
