USC Trojans' quarterback Miller Moss speaks at Big Ten media days

With the transfer portal, no one has to stay at any program longer than they have to if they don’t think it’s in their best interest anymore. That wasn’t the case for USC QB Miller Moss, though, with him being someone that didn’t leave for elsewhere.

Moss spoke about his patience and why he didn’t leave the Trojans while at Big Ten Media Days. For him, his respect for his opportunity in Hollywood was far too great to give up. He came there as an in-state four-star with intentions and aspirations that he still wanted to achieve whenever he could.

“Yeah, I think I have a tremendous appreciation for the university and the people that I work with each and every day,” Moss said on Wednesday.

“I think I had certain goals when I signed at USC and I wanted to see those through until I couldn’t anymore,” said Moss from Indianapolis.

Among those people he is alongside is his head coach in Lincoln Riley. That’s not to mention another he was with in their former senior offensive analyst in Kliff Kingsbury. Both have provided him a ton for his development as a quarterback considering their experience and success with the position.

“I think it’s a tremendous honor to be able to play quarterback for Coach Riley,” added Moss. “Kliff Kingsbury was in the room last year as well who I have a phenomenal relationship with and will always root for no matter what.”

Moss will be a redshirt junior entering his fourth season in Los Angeles in 2024. He has been a reserve behind Kedon Slovis, Jaxson Dart, and Caleb Williams in that time with a dozen appearances. During those opportunities through three regular seasons, he threw for 542 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception with 74.6% completion on 59 attempts.

However, the Holiday Bowl then came to end last season. With Williams opting out, Moss got his first start and certainly made it count in the 42-28 victory over Louisville. He won MVP after going 23-33 (69.7%) for 372 yards, a record-setting six touchdowns, and one interception. It was more than the due fulfillment of Moss’ time there to that point. It then also more than set him up to be the Trojans’ starter coming into this fall.

Again, most in this era would transfer out if they had to wait four years for their chance. Still, Moss isn’t most with his reasoning for why he has remained at USC

“Kind of all of the above right there is why I stayed and stuck it out,” said Moss.
