Miller Moss says Caleb Williams is 'in complete command' of USC's offense entering Year 2
2023 will be Miller Moss‘s third year at USC. The Trojan’s quarterback was one of the top talents in his recruiting class, ranking in the nation’s top 100 recruits. Still, instead of entering into the transfer portal and finding a program where he has a chance to start, he’s decided to stay another season at USC, backing up Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Caleb Williams. And recently, when asked about how the Trojans starting quarterback has looked, Moss had nothing but positive things to say about Williams’s command of the offense.
“I mean, like, he was a great player last year too,” said Moss laughing. “But I think he’s just in complete command. He has that pedigree under his belt, which maybe he didn’t. I mean, he had it; everyone knew he was a great player, but I think it’s almost set in stone now. And I think he has respect on the team and obviously operates the offense with complete command. He’s a great leader for our team.”
At USC, Williams basically ran the same offense he did at Oklahoma as the originator of the offense, head coach Lincoln Riley was his coach at both locations. The only difference primarily was the weapons and individuals around him. Still, Williams was able to put up big numbers on his way to capturing last season’s Heisman Trophy. The Trojans quarterback finished the year with 4537 passing yards, 42 touchdowns through the air, another 10 on the ground, and five interceptions. So, if Williams now has complete control of the offense compared to last season, one can only imagine the heights he will take his game to in 2023.
Moss says USC running back Austin Jones has the ‘heart of a freaking warrior’
Moss also shared a few thoughts about the Trojans likely starting running back this season. With the 2023 season being his third year at USC and his second under head coach Lincoln Riley, he has developed several relationships throughout the team. One individual Moss is particularly fond of is running back Austin Jones. During his sit-down interview, the Trojans quarterback couldn’t help but praise one of his favorite individuals on the team.

“I think Austin is someone that’s not talking about a lot but deserves to be. I think him coming back was a good decision because if you talk to him last year, I didn’t really think he was coming back,” said Moss. “He was a huge leader last year. I think he was somewhat overshadowed because Travis got so much play before him.
“Playing that running back position, those dudes take punishment; like on every play. And that dude’s got the heart of a freaking warrior. I think everyone on that team would run through a wall for that dude. He has every single guy in that locker room respect. He certainly has my respect. I love that dude.”
Last season with the Trojans, Jones was the team’s second-leading rusher behind Travis Dye, with 135 carries for 705 yards and five rushing touchdowns. He also played the key role, catching out of the backfield. Jones had 25 catches for 267 yards and one touchdown as Williams‘ favorite running back option in the passing game.
