Former BYU quarterback Jake Jensen has committed to play football for the USC Trojans in 2022. Jensen’s commitment comes as a surprise to those following his story closely. The former Cougars quarterback committed to and signed with New Mexico on May 23 after entering the transfer portal. But Jensen has had a change of heart after being awarded the opportunity to suit up for Lincoln Riley at USC; where he can learn a great deal from the offensive-minded head coach. The new Trojans quarterback made the announcement from his social media account.

Between Jensen’s time at BYU and now joining USC, he spent a season with Contra Costa. With Contra Costa in 2021, Jensen went 155-for-268 (a 57.9 completion percentage) with 22 touchdowns and just nine interceptions as the Comets went 9-1 on the season. Jensen also added 105 yards on the ground with four touchdowns.

It is not likely that Jensen will be able to replace USC star quarterback Caleb Williams this season unless he becomes Peyton Manning 2.0 over the summer. But since he is transferring from Contra Costa College with three years of eligibility, he can soak in all the knowledge from being around Riley for one season. And after that, the former pleasant Grove high school quarterback can compete for the starting spot next spring.
