Reggie Bush desires to be USC head coach one day
Reggie Bush would love to be a head coach one day and the former Heisman winner can see himself doing it at USC, his alma mater.
Bush doesn’t have prior college coaching experience but he has a feeling he should be on a sideline. In fact, he recently told The Sporting Tribune he spoke to Sacramento State about their head coaching position.
If Bush has the desire, perhaps being a head coach is in his future. Wouldn’t it be a movie if he could do it at USC?
“I would love to come back and be the head coach of USC at some point and help lead USC to a national championship,” Bush said, via The Sporting Tribune. “Lately, man, I’ve just been really having this urge inside of me to get out and coach because it’s in me. And it’s been something I’ve been thinking about a lot and actually talking to people about.”
Bush spoke about his conversation with Sacramento State and then compared his USC desire to Kirby Smart leading Georgia in the present day.
“I actually spoke to some people over at Sacramento State for the head coaching job when that came up,” Bush said. “I spoke to some people over there about coaching and it’s definitely something that I want to do.

“The same way Kirby Smart, a former player from Georgia, came back to coach his team to a title, I would love to do that as well at USC. I think that’d be a tremendous story, a tremendous comeback story. I think I have what it takes. I got the passion. And a lot of these kids grew up watching our era and watching our teams.”
Everything’s been going in a positive direction for Bush lately, since he got his Heisman back following the initial NCAA investigation and scandal for USC, regarding recruiting violations and impermissible benefits.
In 2005, Bush rushed for 1,740 yards and 16 touchdowns on 200 carries, good for 8.7 per carry and 133.9 per game, for USC. He also had 478 receiving yards and two more scores to finish with 2,218 all-purpose yards and 18 total touchdowns. That won him The Heisman Trophy that season to be the second straight Trojan to do it after Matt Leinart.
Earlier in 2024, especially in light of the new era of college athletics, though, the Heisman Trust elected to return the honor back to Bush. However, Bush is still continuing his defamation lawsuit against the NCAA. He has also recently hinted at a documentary that would further share his side of this nearly two decade-long story.
Perhaps a head coaching job will be part of the story in the future.
