Syracuse transfer interior offensive lineman J’Onre Reed announced his commitment to the USC Trojans in an Instagram post Wednesday afternoon.

The IG video has shows clips from his official recent visit to USC and ends with Reed signing transfer paperwork with USC.

“It’s a pleasure to be here,” Reed said in the video, “Man, I could be anywhere in the world and I chose to be here at SC.”

Reed started 12 games for the Orange this season. He also started every game of the 2023 campaign. Reed was Syrcause’s highest-graded pass blocker among players who played more than 300 offensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. He played 815 offensive snaps and was responsible for just one sack.

J’Onre Reed played high school football at Eisenhower (Tex.), where he was an unranked prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Reed is USC’s eighth incoming transfer since the portal opened in early December, according to On3’s 2025 Team Transfers list, following commitments from fellow interior offensive lineman DJ Wingfield (Purdue), defensive linemen Jamaal Jarrett (Georgia) and Keeshawn Silver (Kentucky), quarterback Sam Huard (Utah), running back Eli Sanders (New Mexico), cornerback DJ Harvey (San Jose State) and kicker Caden Chittenden (UNLV). Meanwhile, the Trojans have lost 21 players and rank 68th out of 70 teams in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings

USC is coming off of a 7-6 finish in the third season under coach Lincoln Riley. The Trojans are set to return quarterback Jayden Maiava, who would be presumed to keep the starting job after starting in the final four games this season.

Utah transfer QB Sam Huard commits to USC

Former Utah quarterback Sam Huard will transfer to play for USC in 2025. It will mark the fourth team of his career as he also spent time at Washington (2021-22) and Cal Poly (2023).

Huard did not play in any games for the Utes this past season after underdoing surgery for an undisclosed injury. That allowed him to take a medical redshirt and he will have two years of eligibility left with the Trojans.

The year prior with Cal Poly, Huard started nine games to finish with 2,247 yards passing and 18 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He also played five total games in his two seasons at Washington.

As a recruit, Huard was a five-star prospect out of Kennedy Catholic High School in Bellevue, Washington, in the 2021 class. He ranked as the No. 16 overall player and No. 3 quarterback in the cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
