Travis Dye carted off field in second quarter of USC vs Colorado with injury
USC saw a sight it didn’t want to see Friday night. Running back Travis Dye went down in the second quarter, clutching his left knee, and left on a cart.
Dye suffered the injury on a four-yard run with 2:49 to play in the first half against Colorado. He appeared to be in serious pain on the turf as the trainers tended to him. He left the field on a cart with an air cast on his leg.
Both teams surrounded the cart and multiple players shook Dye’s hand before he left the field. He also gave a “Fight On” gesture to the home crowd on his way out.

Dye was one of the biggest transfer portal additions this offseason as Lincoln Riley took over the program, coming in at No. 21 in the 2021 On3 Transfer Portal Rankings. The former Oregon standout has lived up to the billing, rushing for 858 yards and nine touchdowns this year. In fact, entering play Friday, he scored a touchdown in eight straight games for USC as part of its high-powered offense.

He’s also popular with his teammates. USC quarterback and fellow transfer Caleb Williams spoke highly of Dye earlier this year, talking about how much he enjoys playing with him.
“Travis is awesome. I love having Travis next to me in the backfield. Smart, he may not be the biggest guy but he has one of the biggest hearts. He doesn’t care who’s coming, if a linebacker is coming down the a-gap, he’s coming with a full head of steam. Travis is going to do his best and probably knock him on his tail,” Williams said. “So I believe in Trav when he has the ball in his hands, I believe in Trav when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands, and that says a lot about him.”
At the time of the injury, USC had a 16-3 lead over Colorado at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
