In the transfer portal era of college football, one of the byproducts is that it takes a bit more time for players across the country to click and gel in with their new teammates and schemes. The USC Trojans raided the transfer portal for several exciting offensive pieces this offseason, including former Oregon running back Travis Dye. Recently, Dye talked about how the offensive chemistry this fall is much better for the Trojans than it was in the spring.

“Oh, it’s a lot different. We’re hitting on all cylinders right now I feel like. And the tempo is so much better. It’s just…bow…bow…bow…bow…right down the field. And that’s how it should be. We’re always…you know, itching to improve. We’re always itching to improve and… that’s just what makes this football team great,” Dye said.

Travis Dye discusses being recruited by Lincoln Riley

When Dye entered the transfer portal, he was instantly going to become one of the top names available. He rushed for over 1,200 yards at Oregon last season and would bring an instant impact at running back for any program in the country.

Lincoln Riley was a huge reason, if not the reason, Dye ended up in Los Angeles. The running back said football was the only thing discussed with Riley when on the recruiting trip. From there, it was an easy decision for Dye to play for a quality offensive head coach.

“I had to meet Coach Riley to know how he was and when I came down here, we were just talking ball for about three hours,” Dye said. “We were just going back and forth with it. I knew right away. I knew right away I have to come here, I have to be coached by him. I need to know more, I need to know what he’s thinking when we’re out here on the field. Again, I’m just very blessed to be out here with a mastermind like that.”

Riley will not be afraid to run the ball this season, especially with a back like Dye. Add in the factor of quarterback Caleb Williams and it’s going to be a fun season for USC.
