Former USC Trojans wide receiver Kyle Ford left the program last season, joining crosstown rivals UCLA. However, following a massive coaching shake-up for the Bruins, the wideout opted to reenter the NCAA transfer portal. And now, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Ford will be returning to his original Los Angeles, CA, university selection, rejoining Lincoln Riley and USC.

Ford made the announcement with a hilarious social media post, announcing ‘I’m back’ while also acknowledging that there may have been some fault in his decision to head to UCLA.

Ford spent four seasons at USC and graduated with the Trojans. That was before he transferred a year ago and came to UCLA just a few days later.

In total, Ford made 24 appearances, including a pair of starts, at USC. Then, in 2023 with the Bruins, he appeared a dozen more times with two more starts to his name.

Ford has 62 catches in his career for 873 yards and six touchdowns.

During his lone fall in Pasadena, Ford caught 22 passes for 236 yards and a score. That included a season-best game in their LA Bowl win over Boise State where he had five catches for 33 yards and his one touchdown.

UCLA’s battle with the transfer portal

This offseason, UCLA has brought in nine players and lost 16, which is not uncommon for some of the upper-echelon programs of college football that have players buried deeper in their bench who want an opportunity to earn playing time, whether it be with them or elsewhere. However, it is worth noting that the Bruins did lose some significant top-ring talent, such as quarterback Dante Moore and star safety Kamari Ramsey. Both players opted to leave UCLA for two of their biggest rivals — the Oregon Ducks and USC Trojans.

Losing players to the transfer portal hurts; acquiring a few can help ease that pain. The Bruins were able to bring in a few quality defensive backs to help shape out their secondary in Bryan Addison and KJ Wallace. Along with those two defensive backs, the Trojans also acquired safety Roman Henderson and wide receiver Rico Flores Jr, who both entered the program after spending last season with Notre Dame.
