With news of Five-Star Plus+ cornerback Domani Jackson of Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei decommitting from USC on Sunday, the Trojans’ 2022 recruiting class took a big hit.

Prior to the news of Jackson backing away from his longtime pledge to USC, the Trojans had the No. 15 class in the country. However, USC has fallen to No. 22 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking without Jackson in the class.

The loss of Jackson also pushes USC behind Pac-12 rival Stanford for the second-best class in the conference. The Cardinal is at No. 16 in the On3 Consensus Team Ranking. USC is now behind Indiana at No. 21 and Miami at No. 20.

Oregon has the best class in the Pac 12 and sits just outside the top 10 at No. 11 overall.

There’s a chance Jackson could return to the fold for the Trojans in the long run. That’s especially true if interim coach Donte Williams gets the job or is at least on the staff in some capacity.

However, On3 National Analyst Chad Simmons says there’s another school that is trending heavily for Jackson at this point.

More decommits on way for USC?

With the decommitment, USC now has just eight commitments for the 2022 class. And until the Trojans decide what direction they want to go to fill their new head coaching position, there could be others that decide to turn away from USC.

One name everybody continues to watch is On3 Consensus four-star quarterback Devin Brown out of Draper (Utah) Corner Canyon.

Brown says he’s still committed to USC. But until the Trojans have a coach, other schools – namely Ole Miss and Texas – aren’t going to stop pursuing him. Brown raved about his official visit in October to Ole Miss, and Texas hosted him on an official visit this weekend.

On3 says there’s a 40% chance Brown flips his commitment. That number will remain high until the coaching situation is sorted out at USC.
