USC brought in a pair of freshman in their recruiting class during the last cycle. Neither will now be back for a sophomore season with the Trojans with news from out of the portal today in Los Angeles.

Jalen Shelley has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. That comes per On3’s Pete Nakos on Monday.

Shelley made 22 appearances, with a single start, in what is now his lone season at ‘SC. He played 7.5 minutes per game for them as a reserve and averaged 2.0 points and 1.4 rebounds.

Shelley, a native of Little Elm, Texas, played his high school basketball at Link Academy. He was the No. 62 overall recruit there as a four-star prospect in the 2024 cycle. He also rated as the No. 20 SF and the No. 3 player out of Missouri behind just two of his teammates in Tre Johnson (Texas) and Labaron Philon (Alabama), who each had big years in the SEC with Johnson being Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-SEC while Johnson and Philon were both SEC All-Freshman.

At the time, Shelley was also committed to be in the Southeastern Conference with the Arkansas Razorbacks. However, with Eric Musselman taking the open job in Los Angeles, Shelley requested a release from his letter of intent to instead sign with the Trojans. Isaiah Elohim would do the same as they’d be the only two freshmen on this season’s team for USC.

Both, though, are among the four departures from the program during this portal cycle. Shelley has now joined Elohim, who entered once it opened two weeks ago, along with Wesley Yates and Kevin Patton Jr. who both entered within the last week or so. None of them have since committed elsewhere yet with Yates (No. 41), Patton Jr. (No. 157), and Elohim (No. 196) all currently in the Top-200 of On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players.

That said, USC has been very active in the portal with four transfer additions in just the last three days. Jacob Cofie (Virginia), Amarion Dickerson (Robert Morris), and Keonte Jones (Cal State Northridge) each committed to them on Saturday while they also picked up Drew Fielder (Georgetown) on Monday. Cofie (No. 69) and Fielder (No. 126) are the highest-rated of the four presently per On3.
