USC lands commitment from fast-rising EDGE Devan Thompkins
USC is still searching for its next head coach, but recruiters on campus are working hard at filling out the Class of 2022. And the Trojans got a solid piece of its pass-rushing puzzle on Friday with a commitment from Devan Thompkins.
Thompkins, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound EDGE from Stockton (Calif.) Edison, announced his commitment to USC on Friday. In a tweet, Thompkins thanked his family, friends, high school coaches and recruiters at USC.
“I can’t wait to start this next chapter in my life,” Thompkins said in the social media post.
Devan Thompkins is ranked as a three-star prospect, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Thompkins took an official visit to USC on Oct. 29. USC offered him earlier this summer, but he was a prospect the Trojans were hoping to see play this fall before going all in. And now, even though the coaching staff is in flux at USC, the Trojans saw enough to pursue heavily and secure the commitment.
“He has the size they’re looking for with his 6-5 and 220-pound frame,” Scott Schrader of WeAreSC said. “Thompkins recruitment has picked up significantly with not only USC, but with Washington, Missouri, Utah, Oregon State, Michigan State and others going hard after him. He’d become an important target for the Trojans over the past few weeks.”
