Travis Dye and the USC Trojan offense were firing on all cylinders in their Week 2 game versus Stanford, especially in the first half. The Trojans scored a touchdown on each of their first drives of the game, but didn’t touch the paint for the rest of the game. Dye spoke on why he believes the production of the offense went down in the second half.

“It’s handling success, that’s all that was,” Dye said. “We had a lot of success in the first half and we didn’t handle it well in the second half. We thought we had it in the bag, we thought they were just gonna lay down, when this is college football, nobody lays down.”

The Trojans are also adjusting to each other, as their team is largely comprised of transfer portal additions from this offseason, including Dye who came in from Oregon, where in four seasons he accounted for over 4,000 all purpose yards for the Ducks. The expectations of this USC squad heading into the season were mixed, as many didn’t know what to expect out of their newly built roster and their new head coach Lincoln Riley.

But so far they’ve exceeded expectations and had early success, and if they want to continue their winning ways, they’ll definitely have to adjust quickly. USC is one of the nation’s most storied programs, and the target on their back only gets bigger and bigger the better they are, and with a 2-0 start and a No. 7 ranking in the latest AP Top 25 Poll, it’s growing by the day.

“Everybody’s gonna come with their best every single play, every single game, especially if you’re on a team like USC, you’re gonna get their best. And it doesn’t matter if you’re up by 40 or if you’re down by 40, you gotta just keep playing,” Dye said.

Dye had a strong showing against the Cardinal, leading the team in rushing with 14 rushes for 105 yards and a touchdown, averaging an impressive 7.5 yards per carry on the day. The three-headed monster of Dye, quarterback Caleb Williams, and wide receiver Jordan Addison have been spearheading the Trojan’s offensive attack. And if they can continue to play at a high level and sustain their success, the Trojans could see themselves in the the College Football Playoff conversation in December.
