USC legend calls for coaches job following loss to Stanford
A USC Trojans legend is calling for the job of head coach, Clay Helton. Last night, the 1995 Pac-12 Player of the Year, wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, tweeted out his displeasure following USC’s lifeless loss to Stanford.
“I’m so pissed. I can no longer Fight On for him — Period. Embarrassing” tweeted Johnson.
Evidently, Johnson is at his wits end with Helton’s tenure in Southern California. With so much promise going into the season, the same old story reigned supreme for Helton’s Trojans.
Moreover, the first overall selection in the 1996 NFL Draft turning on Helton compounds the loss from last night. While Johnson may be a prominent figure in USC history, he also possesses a huge platform as a radio host and recurring analyst at ESPN.
Following the demoralizing loss, Helton has some work to do to get USC faithful back on his side.
USC fans agree with Keyshawn Johnson
While Helton entered 2021 with his team surrounded by promise, all of it went by the wayside after being dominated by Stanford last night. Additionally, it’s obvious that Johnson wasn’t the only one angry with the team’s head coach.
Instead of cheering on USC, fans were chanting for the end of the Helton era before the game ended.
“Many of the few remaining USC fans at the Coliseum are clapping and chanting “Fire Helton!” loudly enough that we can hear them up here in the press box,” tweeted Greg Beachum.
Following years of middling play, Helton needed a memorable season to endear himself to Trojans fans. However, instead all the hope USC had seems to have dwindled away with one loss.

For years, the Trojans have been looking for a head coach to take them back to their prominence of year’s past. In the beginning, Helton fit the bill. Now, it seems as if just about everybody in Southern California is ready to move on.
“That’s what we get for hiring a dude that doesn’t understand what being a Trojan is all about.”
While Johnson may love his alma mater, he’s not afraid to criticize their decision makers. Before calling for Helton’s job last night, Johnson disparaged USC athletic director Mike Bohn last December.
Prior to USC’s loss to Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship, there was talk about a possible College Football Playoff berth for the Trojans. However, Bohn rubbed Johnson the wrong way when he complimented Ohio State, instead of fighting for USC.
“Like, why would you even say something like that? Ohio State ain’t no bigger than USC,” said Johnson. “We on the same level, if not better. Like, where is his mindset at? Like, you’re supposed to be saying, ‘We need to be in the same damn conversation. We’re both 5-0. We’re both playing in championship games.’ I don’t want to hear nothing about no recency bias.”
“That’s what we get for hiring a dude that doesn’t understand what being a Trojan is all about.”
If Bohn doesn’t make some serious changes involving Helton this offseason, Keyshawn Johnson’s voice will only grow louder.
