Former Utah quarterback Sam Huard will transfer to play for USC in 2025. It will mark the fourth team of his career as he also spent time at Washington (2021-22) and Cal Poly (2023).

Huard did not play in any games for the Utes this past season after underdoing surgery for an undisclosed injury. That allowed him to take a medical redshirt and he will have two years of eligibility left with the Trojans.

The year prior with Cal Poly, Huard started nine games to finish with 2,247 yards passing and 18 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He also played five total games in his two seasons at Washington.

As a recruit, Huard was a five-star prospect out of Kennedy Catholic High School in Bellevue, Washington, in the 2021 class. He ranked as the No. 16 overall player and No. 3 quarterback in the cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Huard is also the No. 1,641 overall player and No. 127 quarterback in this transfer cycle according to On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings. He will look to reach the potential at USC that many believed him to have coming out of high school.

USC is coming off of a 7-6 finish in the third season under coach Lincoln Riley. The Trojans are set to return quarterback Jayden Maiava, who would be presumed to keep the starting job after starting in the final four games this season.

Overall, USC has brought in seven players through the transfer portal and Huard is the first quarterback it has added. Additionally, the Trojans have lost 21 players and rank 68th out of 70 teams in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.
