Jacob Cofie is one of several transfers to have left Virginia this offseason after this past year with their coaching change. He’ll now be going from the east coast back out to the west coast with his choice in the portal.

Cofie has committed to transfer to the USC Trojans out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. That comes per On3’s Joe Tipton.

Cofie, a 6’10 forward, just finished his freshman season with the Cavaliers. He appeared in 32 games for the ‘Hoos, half of those being starts, as Cofie averaged 7.2 points (49.5% FG), 4.6 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.0 assists per outing. That had him second on their team in steals and blocks, third in rebounding and field-goal percentage, and fifth in scoring.

Cofie, a native of Seattle, played high school basketball at Eastside Catholic in Sammamish. He was the No. 89 recruit in the class as a four-star prospect in the 2024 cycle. He also rated as the No. 14 PF in the class and the No. 1 player out of the state of Washington. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. With that, Cofie was by far the highest-rated signee from the last cycle out of the two for UVA.

Now, Cofie is the second highest-rated transfer to leave Virginia during this portal cycle. He is, per the latest in On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players, at No. 52 overall as the No. 13 PF. That’s behind only Isaac McKneely (Louisville) as the No. 10 transfer and the No. 2 CG currently. They’ve left Charlottesville along with nine others with Andrew Rohde (Wisconsin), Dai Dai Ames (California), Blake Buchanan (Iowa State), and Anthony Robinson (Xavier) along with Elijah Saunders, Ishan Sharma, TJ Power, and Christian Bliss.

Cofie was then the first of three additions from the portal on the same day for Eric Musselman. ‘SC also got commitments from Amarion Dickerson (Robert Morris) and Keonte Jones (Cal State Northridge) on Saturday. The Trojans also lost a player that day as well with Wesley Yates joining their other entry in Isaiah Elohim.
