Three-star CB Tywan Cox gives USF a big addition in its 2025 class
There’s been Twitter beef between USF and FAU this summer, but it’s the Bulls that have been victorious over the Owls in head-to-head battles on the recruiting front.
One of the biggest for Alex Golesh and Co. was landing Miami Northwestern’s Tywan Cox, who ranks as a three-star cornerback prospect according to the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. Cox announced his pledge to the Bulls June 24.
The 5-11, 170-pounder held offers from Miami, Vanderbilt, SMU, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Marshall throughout his recruitment process, but he ultimately decided between FAU and USF. Cornerbacks coach DeMarcus Van Dyke got it done for the Bulls.
“I chose USF because i love how they are like a big family,” Cox told On3. “The vibe that I get from the coaches and players is amazing. I see what they are trying to do to the program, and I would love to join them.
“Coach DVD was very important in my decision. He had been recruiting me since I got in high school. We have a great relationship, and I would definitely love to play under him. Coach DVD and I are very close; he has been watching me play since I was little, so he knows that I can play.”
Cox, who plays for one of the top high school programs nationally at Miami Northwestern, is pumped about the future of the USF football program.
“I’m very fired up,” he said. “It will definitely feel very good to play in the new stadium. This team is building for that championship, and I would love to join them.”

Cox took his official visit to USF from June 14-16 and loved every minute in Tampa.
“One highlight of my trip was definitely when I was out with the players,” said Cox. “I got to build a bond with the players. One thing the coaches always talk about is relationships, and I felt like I built relationships with them.
“I got to chat it up with the coaches a lot. I learned some good information from them; I definitely enjoyed how everything was set up. The whole visit was smooth and very fun.
“USF’s campus is very big and nice. They have good resources around the campus. The city is nice and there’s a lot of things to do.”
Cox was a part of a 400-meter state championship squad this past spring. He was recorded running a strong time in the 100-meter race at 10.7 seconds.
USF has 22 commitments in the 2025 class, which is tied for sixth-most in the country. The Bulls currently have the No. 1 class in the American Athletic Conference..
