2025 TE Brandon Kubay goes in depth on USF Bulls official visit
Alex Golesh and the USF Bulls only had one official visitor on campus during the June 11-13 midweek slot, and it was an important prospect for the staff.
Oakdale (Conn.) St. Thomas More class of 2025 tight end Brandon Kubay made it to Tampa and got a lot of attention from the Bulls’ coaches.
“I loved the official visit,” Kubay said. “I’m originally from Canada, but I feel like a Florida guy now. This is my home still. I have bias towards staying in Florida.
“The staff was super welcoming and genuine. I’ve been talking to USF for a quite a while, so I have an established, good relationship with all the staff. It was just what I expected to be — a great visit overall.”
Kubay is a native of Winnipeg, Canada and moved down to the Sunshine State for the 2023 football season, playing at Clearwater Academy International. However, CAI is slowing down, so Kubay is playing his senior year at St. Thomas More.
But as Kubay noted, he loves the state of Florida and has high interest in USF. He added the Bulls to his offer list May 27 and then shortly thereafter set up the official visit date.
The USF staff showed him a lot of love during his OV.
“I spent the most time with tight ends coach Jack Taylor and the assistant tight ends coach,” said Kubay. “Both of those guys took me in and showed me around everywhere — breakfast, lunch, dinner with them. They’re both super genuine and young coaches, and I enjoy have much energy they bring to practice. They’re amped up.
“I got to spend a ton of time with Coach Golesh. He’s a super approachable head coach, which I don’t seem to get everywhere I’ve been so far. Often times there’s something about talking to a head coach that makes me feel nervous, but talking to Coach Golesh, he seemed like a really down to earth guy who I could have a regular conversation with.”

What’s next in Kubay’s recruitment?
The 6-3, 225-pounder is currently at James Madison for an official visit. Earlier this week, he added Virginia Tech to his offer list after a strong camp performance. Those two schools, plus USF, have the best chance to land his commitment.
“I’m still talking to a few other schools, but if I were to put out a top three, the places I’m visiting are the most realistic options,” he noted.
At the time of the interview, Kubay said that his official visit with Virginia Tech is in the works for the weekend of June 21.
Kubay admitted that the Bulls’ staff was hoping to get Kubay to commit while on campus, but it was his first official visit, and he wants to see his other top schools before deciding.
“There was definitely a little push to commit,” he said. “They do have other guys. I see USF as a place I can call home, but I don’t have anything to compare it to yet. I know official visits are a lot to take in, and I want to make sure I’m making the right decision.
“I’m not a guy who plans to go to a college and transfer out. I want to spend all five years there and develop the best I can. When I know 100 percent, then I’ll pull the trigger and not wait any longer.”
