4-star DL Tevita Pome'e lands ‘dream offer’ from Utah

On3 Consensus four-star defensive lineman Tevita Pome’e of Layton (Utah) Christian Academy is already a well-known name with college coaches.

The 6-foot-3, 315-pounder has seen his recruitment steadily grow over the past month, earning offers from Nevada, Jackson State, Utah State, San Jose State, Washington and USC. That’s in addition to previous offers from Oregon State and Vanderbilt.

But on Monday, Tevita Pome’e picked up a coveted offer from in-state Utah. And it’s easy to see that he’s pretty fired up about the offer from the Utes.

“My ninth offer comes from my dream school,” Pome’e said. “My first college football experience was at Utah, and it shaped me into the student and player I am.

“This one is huge, and I’m so grateful.”

Offers means a lot to Tevita Pome’e’s coach

The offer from the Utes was extended by defensive line coach Lewis Powell. And while it was special for Tevita Pome’e, it also meant a lot to his high school coach Ray Stowers. Stowers played running back at the University of Utah from 2004-09. He was also an offensive administrative assistant with the Utes.

“This one hit home because Utah football is my family,” Stowers said. “I know they will take care of him. The sky is the limit.”

Pome’e is the No. 348 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 34 defensive lineman and the No. 3 junior prospect in Utah.

Pome’e recently took an unofficial visit to Oregon, which has yet to extend him an offer. As a junior this fall, Tevita Pome’e totaled 53 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 7 tackles for loss, as well as a fumble recovery.

Tevita Pome’e is among the top players in the Beehive State. After producing two five-star recruits in the 2022 class, including No. 1 overall Devin Brown, the 2023 class features three four-star recruits. The No. 1 player – to this point at least – is four-star offensive tackle Spencer Fano of Provo Timpview.
