Utah defensive back Aaron Lowe murdered overnight
Salt Lake City police in Utah responded to a deadly shooting early Sunday morning. One person died on the scene and a second person was transported to the hospital. The person who died on the scene has now been confirmed as Utah defensive back Aaron Lowe.
“We are investigating a shooting in the 2200-block of South Broadmoor Street,” SLCPD tweeted at 5:32 a.m. ET on Sunday. “One person died on scene and another was transported to the hospital in critical condition. No arrests have been made. There is no immediate public safety risk.”
Police later confirmed Lowe as the victim of the shooting, which happened at a house party.
247Sports’ Steve Bartle was the first to confirm Lowe’s death.
“Holy hell. It’s confirmed,” Bartle tweeted. “Utah’s Aaron Lowe was shot and killed last night. Unbelievably tragic and unreal. I can’t even imagine what is being felt right now.”
Rivals’ Alex Markham also confirmed the news on Sunday.
“The posts on (Ja’Quinden) Jackson’s Instagram were enough confirmation, but I received a call from a source close to the program this morning,” Markham tweeted. “Rest in Peace. May your memory be eternal, Aaron Lowe.”
Lowe was in his third season with Utah’s football team. He played 11 games on special teams as a freshman in 2019. Last season, he also played in five games, all on special teams. Lowe appeared in each of Utah’s first three games of the season.

Lowe was Utah’s first recipient of the Ty Jordan scholarship
Utah tragically lost another player from its football program in December of last year, when running back Ty Jordan was killed after suffering a gunshot wound. Lowe was best friends with Jordan, and Utah awarded him with the first scholarship in remembrance of Jordan.
Lowe switched his jersey number from No. 2 to No. 22 in remembrance of Jordan. Jordan and Lowe were also teammates in high school.
“Ty made everyone around him better,” Lowe said when Utah announced that he would receive the first Ty Jordan scholarship. “He made me better. My friendship with Ty means a lot because he was always pushing me to be my best. He never let me settle for less. I want to make sure his legacy lives on through me.”
A former three-star recruit, Lowe totaled 74 tackles, four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and three interceptions as a senior at West Mesquite High School in Texas.
Utah is 2-2 on the season after defeating Washington State on Saturday.
