Cam Rising injury update: Utah releases statement with unfortunate update on star QB
The injury for Utah quarterback Cam Rising is considered season-ending, Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham announced on Monday. Rising will not play for the program again this season and based on the statement released by Whittingham, his time in Salt Lake City is over as well.
“Upon further evaluation by our medical staff, Cameron Rising’s injury has unfortunately been deemed season-ending,” Whittingham said. “During his time at Utah, Cam has been both a great player and leader for our program, and he will obviously be missed. Any future developments concerning his collegiate eligibility will be addressed at a later date.”
Earlier on Monday, the term used to describe Rising’s status was “indefinitely” by Whittingham. Issac Wilson was announced as the team’s starting quarterback, taking the role back over after a week away. Rising did play against Arizona State on Friday night but played poorly, throwing for just 209 yards and three interceptions in a 27-19 loss.
Rising was originally a member of the 2018 recruiting class, beginning his career with the Texas Longhorns under head coach Tom Herman after being a four-star recruit. He spent one season in Austin before transferring to Utah but did not step onto the field until 2020. Injuries have been the major storyline for Rising, only having 30 games played in a Utah uniform.

If this is the end of his career, Rising will finish with 6,127 yards, 53 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions to his name.
However, there is a path to play college football for an eighth season. On3’s Pete Nakos outlined the scenarios on Monday, saying Rising would have to apply for another medical redshirt. If there is another go-round in the NCAA transfer portal, you have to imagine Rising would have quite a few suitors.
