Former 1,000-yard rusher Tavion Thomas of Utah declares for NFL Draft
Utah Utes running back Tavion Thomas has declared for the NFL Draft. A former 1,000-yard rusher, he will not play another game for Utah as he begins to prepare for the draft next Spring.
In his announcement, Tavion Thomas explained that he injured his toe against Oregon. Because of this, he won’t play in the final game of the year or the bowl as he prepares for the future.
Tavion Thomas thanked the coaching staff at Utah for taking a chance on him. He also thanked everyone who has embraced him during his time in Utah, saying that the opportunity given to him by the community changed his life.

Originally, Tavion Thomas went to Cincinnati, in his home state of Ohio. He ended up transferring and that’s how he ended up at Utah, getting the opportunity to show what he was capable of at the Power Five level.
In 2021, he ran for 1,108 yards and 21 touchdowns. He saw his production dip in 2022, while still being effective at running the ball for the Utes. On his career, he ran for 35 touchdowns and ran for 2,484 yards.
