Utah quarterback Cam Rising leaves Rose Bowl, heads to locker room
For the second consecutive season, Utah quarterback Cam Rising has had to leave the Rose Bowl due to injury. Looking to make a play in the third quarter against Penn State, Rising was met by a couple of defenders and took a couple of punishing hits.
However, there seems to be a knee problem bothering the quarterback. Heading into the medical tent at first, Rising is now making his way to the Utah locker room.
“Cam Rising leaving that tent,” ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe said. “He has played with two different knee braces at times this year. I saw them take a knee brace in there but I don’t know that they’re going to be able to put them on him. They are going to the locker room right now with Cam Rising. He has been able to play with a bigger support but they’re going right to the locker room.”
Rising has not been too effective in the air out in Pasadena, completing just eight of 21 passes for 95 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. He has been solid on the ground, as usual, having 56 yards on just nine carries.
Utah has not officially ruled Rising out of the game but things are not looking good with him in the locker room. ESPN play-by-play man Chris Fowler was able to provide an update via sports injury analyst Marty Jaramillo, who explained what was possibly going on in the locker room.

“The man, by far, best equipped to lead Utah back remains in the locker room,” Fowler said. “Cam Rising’s parents have joined him there. Our sports injury analyst Marty Jaramillo phoning in to report that procedure would be you take him back there to do an X-ray. Make sure there is no structural damage to the knee.
“It looked like he was walking okay back to the locker room. So, we’ll see if they can race him up and get him back in here. If not, it’s going to be up to Bryson Barnes to lead what is now a two-touchdown comeback.
Bryson Barnes was inserted into the game and was also the replacement a year ago against Ohio State. He is once again being put into a tough situation, going up against one of the Big Ten’s top teams. He will be hoping to replace Rising in a positive fashion and bring a Rose Bowl win home.
