Utah quarterback Cameron Rising announces decision to return for 2023

Cameron Rising just finished up his second season as Utah’s starting quarterback where he has led them to two appearances in the Rose Bowl. Now, the junior says he’s ready to run it back as a senior in 2023.
Utah Football’s official Twitter page shared the news earlier today that one of the Pac-12’s best QBs, if not one of the nation’s best, will be back again next season.
In 2022, Rising threw for just over 3,000 yards for 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions on a 64.7% completion rate. He rushed for 465 yards as well for six more scores. That came after posting 2,279 passing yards, a 62.8% completion percentage, and 23 total touchdowns as a sophomore in 2021.
In total, that production has helped lead the Utes to a 19-7 record overall and a pair of Pac-12 titles. However, Rising and his teammates haven’t been able to get over the hump come bowl season. Both of their appearance in Pasadena led to losses to Ohio State and Penn State.

Rising just missed being a Top-250 player in the On3 Consensus for the 2018 class. However, he finished as a Top-20 QB in those rankings. The former four-star out of Newbury Park, California originally committed to Texas. He redshirted there before transferring to Salt Lake City and redshirting again in 2019. After sitting behind Jake Bentley in 2020, he then earned the starting job in 2021 and both Kyle Whittingham and the program never looked back.
Rising has also proven to be one of college football’s most marketable players in NIL. Per the NIL 100, he ranks as a Top-50 player in the sport at No. 47. As for his On3 NIL Valuation, it sits at $536K.
Rising coming back to Utah is massive for the program. They’ll look to compete in the conference again and try to make some more noise nationally with him back under center in 2023.
