Utah wide receiver Taeshaun Lyons enters transfer portal
Utah Utes wide receiver Taeshaun Lyons has entered the Transfer Portal. On3’s Pete Nakos reported the news.
Coming out of high school at Tennyson in California, Lyons was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 32nd-ranked wide receiver and the 223rd-ranked player nationally in that recruiting cycle.
Initially, Lyons went to Washington. Under then-head coach Kalen DeBoer, he would appear in two games over the course of the 2023 season that saw the Huskies play for a national championship. However, with DeBoer leaving to take the Alabama job following the season, Lyons would make the decision to transfer to Utah.
In four games with Utah, Lyons had one reception for four yards. That leaves him with three seasons of eligibility at whatever school he next ends up playing for.
It was a surprisingly difficult season for the Utes. After making the transition into the Big 12, the Utes expected to compete at the top of the conference. However, after going 5-7 overall and 2-7 in Big 12 play, Utah is missing out on a bowl game this season. The offense is a major reason why, as quarterback injuries did their part to derail things.

Utah finished 99th in the country in passing offense, averaging 199.4 yards per game. That ended up being a major contributor as to why Utah had the 102nd-ranked scoring offense, averaging 23.6 points per game.
Utah currently has the 56th-ranked transfer class in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 2025 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. It’s a class that has already seen 24 players exit the program through the portal while 11 transfers have committed to Utah. That includes four wide receivers, two tight ends, and two quarterbacks who are leaving Utah. Meanwhile, two quarterbacks and a wide receiver have already committed to transferring into the program. So, it’s going to be a new-look passing game.
The transfer portal initially opened on December 9th. It is one of two times this offseason that the transfer portal is going to be open. The other opportunity comes following Spring practice or if a head coach leaves a job. So, Utah likely isn’t done in the transfer portal this offseason.
