Round Rock (Texas) three-star safety Jalen Gilbert has announced his commitment to Vanderbilt. He chose the Commodores over multiple programs, including Arizona State and West Virginia.

Gilbert is the No. 1,071 overall prospect and No. 101 safety in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 189 player in Texas.

On3 rates Gilbert higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Even though he is not ranked in the 2023 On300, Gilbert is the No. 41 safety and No. 82 player in Texas.

Vanderbilt’s 2023 recruiting class now contains 19 commitments. The group ranks No. 41 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 14 in the SEC.

Gilbert is the Commodores’ third pledge this month. The others are Grand Prairie (Texas) South Grand Prairie three-star running back AJ Newberry and San Diego (Calif.) St Augustine three-star offensive tackle Misael Sandoval.

Vanderbilt’s 2023 class is led by two four-star recruits. They are Rome (Ga.) cornerback Martel Hight and Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley tight end Ka’Morreun Pimpton.

Gilbert has an On3 NIL Valuation of $5.9K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
