Clark Lea updates Vanderbilt injuries following Week Zero
Vanderbilt has the luxury of already having played a game, beating Hawaii in a Week Zero matchup. Better still, the Commodores did it without Vanderbilt injuries taking a major toll.
Head coach Clark Lea provided an extensive injury update on Tuesday.
“I wanted to start with an injury update, not to go through everyone,” he said. “We came out of the game relatively healthy. … Felt good coming out of the game in terms of being healthy.”
That’s not to say everyone is completely healthy.
A handful of players who did not participate in the season opener remain on the list of Vanderbilt injuries that Lea provided on Tuesday, including defensive lineman Daevion Davis, who is still dealing with lingering impacts from a torn ACL.
“Big-picture update Daevion Davis will be out indefinitely, so he’s obviously with us and a part of what we’re doing but still struggling to recover all the way from his knee injury,” Lea said.
Two others who missed the team’s season opener against Hawaii also remain on the mend.
Defensive lineman Darren Agu missed the game with a dislocated elbow, while linebacker/safety Jeffrey Ugo missed the game while nursing a sprained ankle. Both remain questionable.
“Darren Agu is making progress, would be questionable, day to day, for this weekend,” Lea said. “He was back out today and we’ll keep progressing him through the week. Lot of it’s how the elbow responds.
“Jeff Ugo is questionable, day to day, was back at practice today. Was able to get through the individual periods. He’s coming back from an ankle sprain and feel like he’s on his way and very well may be able to participate or be available to participate this weekend.”

Finally, two other players who played in the game against Hawaii showed up on the list of Vanderbilt injuries coming out of it.
“From the game, Leyton Nelson is questionable with a sprained foot,” Lea said. “Day to day on that. So we’ll see how he gets to feeling and if we can get him back in practice. He did not practice today.
“Then Quincy Skinner with his hamstring is probable. He practiced full today and was on a player load but didn’t have any setbacks.”
Vanderbilt’s next game comes against Alabama A&M at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, with a broadcast set for the SEC Network+ and ESPN+.
