Cornell's AK Okereke commits to transfer to Vanderbilt

Cornell’s AK Okereke developed into a productive player in becoming a starter there in his junior year. Now, coming off that season, he decided to transfer last month with his choice from the portal coming on Tuesday.
Okereke has committed to Vanderbilt in the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. That comes this morning per On3’s Joe Tipton.
Okereke, a former walk-on, spent the past three seasons playing for the Big Red with 63 appearances while in Ithaca. He would average 9.8 points (58.2% FG, 31.7% 3PT), 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in that career in the Ivy League.
Okereke is then coming off a career-best season across the board at Cornell. He posted 13.9 points (59.5% FG, 32.1% 3PT), 4.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game in being second in scoring and rebounding while being first in assists, steals, blocks, and field-goal percentage for the team.
A native of Clovis, California, Okereke played for Clovis North High School. He also spent a prep season at Golden State Prep in Napa.

Now, Okereke is the latest addition in the portal during this offseason so far for Mark Byington. Vandy has also earned transfer commitments from Jalen Washington (North Carolina), Frankie Collins (Michigan, Arizona State, TCU), Mike James (Louisville, NC State), and Mason Nicholson (Jacksonville State). That class is currently rated at No. 54 nationally, and at No. 12 in the Southeastern Conference, per On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings.
That’s after the Commodores have lost eight players to the portal since the end of their debut season under Byington. Half of those have committed elsewhere in Jason Edwards (Providence), Jaylen Carrey (Tennessee), JaQualon Roberts (Davidson), and MJ Collins (Utah State) while the other half remain available with Karris Bilal, Kijani Wright, Alex Hemenway, and Jordan Williams.
