Georgia advanced past Vanderbilt by a dozen this week, and after a winning effort on the glass by the Bulldogs, Jerry Stackhouse called for his own team to hit the boards much harder going forward.

It wasn’t that UGA busted up Vandy for one offensive rebound after another to extend every possession. Rather, the Dawgs just defended their own basket and grabbed 32 defensive rebounds, almost never allowing the Commodores a second chance.

“We just got to get more effort more effort on the offensive boards,” shared Stackhouse in the postgame. “I think that’s, you know, that’s where it is. I mean, it was kind of balanced a little bit, you know, 30 defensive rebounds. A lot of that was just probably our misses, right.”

He is correct, and the Vanderbilt coach would love to see more offensive rebounds for his team, or simply more made shots to eliminate the possibility of a rebound altogether.

“I mean, I really try to look at the offensive rebounds. You know, we held them to like seven offensive rebounds, so a lot of those defensive boards just come from from us not converting offensively. So I think we got to got to score. If we score the ball better and we shoot it at a better clip, then probably, that that’s in a little bit more balance.”

Going back to the offensive glass, Jerry Stackhouse singled out some guys he believes should be in the mix for offensive rebounds but just weren’t huge factors in that department against Georgia.

“But the big key for me is always looking at those offensive rebounds. I thought (Ven-Allen Lubin) did a pretty good job, he had eight boards. Tyrin (Lawrence) had had six boards, you know, Evan (Taylor) had two.”

Specifically, Stackhouse is calling on his forwards for some better effort.

“But those guys that play, Evan Taylor and (JaQualon) Roberts, we need those guys, especially at that spot, to get their hands on some balls. Even if they don’t rebound them, to get their hands on some balls to try to give us some second chance opportunities as well. And those guys didn’t didn’t have any of those, too many of those, tonight.”

Taylor plays the third-highest number of minutes per game on the team yet grabs under four rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Roberts doesn’t play quite as much but he only nabs two rebounds a game for the Commodores. Lubin l;eads the team but at only 5.8 per night. It’s just not a team that dominates on the glass, and Stackhouse is hoping that will change.
