As one does after pulling off the biggest upset in school history, Vanderbilt students took down a goalpost at FirstBank Stadium after beating Alabama. They didn’t stop there, however, carrying it with them through the city before throwing into Cumberland River.

It was a scene that we’ve watched take place before, but video emerged on social media offering a different perspective. Night vision footage from a police helicopter was post on X, formerly Twitter, showing hundreds — if not thousands — of students gathering to toss the goalpost into the water.

It’s quite an eerie-looking sight as the footage is in black and white and the students look like small specks on the screen. You can take a look for yourself below.

It almost looks like something one would expect to see in a movie about the zombie apocalypse. You can barely even tell what is going on in the footage if you didn’t have context before watching it.

The win against Alabama, the No. 1 team in the country, marked the first time in school history that Vanderbilt had taken out a top five opponent, which was previously 0-60.

Diego Pavia was the star of the show and was in complete control of the Vanderbilt offense. He threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns while completing 16 of 20 passes. On the ground, Pavia ran for 56 yards and continually found a way to pick up critical third downs for the Commodores.

“It’s literally all God’s timing,” Pavia said. “Literally, from the jump. God gave me a vision when I was a little kid. … It’s God’s timeline. I’m super thankful. Super thankful for guys like Eli Stowers. Man, that kid’s are incredible. The rest of our team. I mean, look at this. Vandy, we’re fucking turnt!”

Clearly the Vanderbilt fans felt the same way with how they celebrated after beating Alabama. Thankfully, the actual scene wasn’t nearly as scary as it looked from the police helicopter, but the school was fined $100,000 over the incident.

That’s a big price to pay for an equally big win, and they likely aren’t complaining any time soon.
