The SEC announced Sunday that Vanderbilt will be fined after its fans stormed the field following a 31-24 victory against Florida this weekend. Because it is the school’s third offense under the league’s access to competition area policy, the fine will be $250,000.

Saturday marked the second straight victory for the Commodores which just last week snapped a 26-game SEC losing streak with a win against Kentucky. Starting in place of an injured AJ Swann, quarterback Mike Wright finished 10-of-16 passing for 108 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.

The league’s full policy on access to the competition area reads as follows:

“Access to competition areas shall be limited to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly-credentialed individuals at all times. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest shall spectators be permitted to enter the competition area. It is the responsibility of each member institution to implement procedures to ensure compliance with this policy.”

Because of its back-to-back wins, Vanderbilt (5-6) has kept its season alive and has a chance to achieve bowl eligibility for the first time since 2018. The Commodores face a tall task if they hope to get there, however, as they host in-state rival Tennessee at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at home.

South Carolina also faces fine from SEC for storming field

Entering Week 12, Tennessee sat at No. 5 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. The Vols needed to simply continue winning and get a little bit of help to make it into the CFP. When Tennessee rolled into South Carolina, most expected the Vols to continue winning. But the result from Williams-Brice Stadium was shocking to everyone.

South Carolina’s offense looked the best that it has all season, and the Gamecocks nearly doubled up Tennessee on the scoreboard. Ultimately, South Carolina earned a 63-38 victory. After the game, Gamecock fans stormed the field in Columbia, which has now led to an expected fine from the SEC.

On Sunday afternoon, the SEC announced a $100,000 fine for South Carolina’s second offense under the league’s access to competition area policy.
