Vanderbilt's Jerry Stackhouse refutes online report connecting him to Detroit Pistons
Following an online report that Vanderbilt basketball coach Jerry Stackhouse is interested in the Detroit Pistons job opening, the Commodores coach has come out and strongly refuted any such notion.
Personally.
Responding to a fan that tagged him on Twitter and urged “please don’t leave us!” Stackhouse responded and poured a bucket of ice water on anyone thinking he’s leaving.
“Don’t listen to these (clowns),” Jerry Stackhouse wrote. “It’s beguilement in the highest form. They have NO ACCESS to me or (Vanderbilt basketball) so they choose to cater to the irrational and divisive 5.8% of Commodore Nation.”
Stackhouse attached the hashtags “BEUS,” “dontfallforit” and “sources” to the tweet.
After going 11-21 in his first season and 9-16 in his second season at Vanderbilt, Stackhouse has made some major progress in his last two seasons at the helm.
Vanderbilt finished with a 19-17 record in 2021-22, reaching the NIT quarterfinals in the process. In 2022-23, the Commodores improved to 22-15 with an 11-7 mark in conference play but narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament. Once again the team reached the NIT quarterfinals.
Following the season, Jerry Stackhouse was named the 2023 SEC Coach of the Year.
Stackhouse, of course, began his coaching career in the NBA after a lengthy playing career in the league.
