Vanderbilt guard Alex Hemenway has entered the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Pete Nakos. He spent just one season with the Commodores after transferring in from Clemson this past offseason.

Hemenway did not appear in any games at Vanderbilt this past year to maintain one year of eligibility. Prior to that he spent five years with the Tigers, most recently playing five games in 2023-24 before suffering a season-ending injury.

Overall, he appeared in 95 games with 25 starts in his career at Clemson. His best year came in 2022-23 when he averaged 6.9 points while shooting 47.1% from 3-point range.

Alex Hemenway attended Castle High School in Newburgh, Indiana, where he was unranked as a senior in 2019. He committed to Clemson over offers from schools such as Bradley, DePaul and Valparaiso.

Given that he hasn’t played a game in essentially two seasons, it will be interesting to see where he ends up in the portal this time around. It’s unclear at this point if the option of returning to the Tigers is on the table, but he’ll hope to receive interest from plenty of programs.

Vanderbilt is coming off of a 20-13 finish that earned it a No. 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament this past season, its first under coach Mark Byington. However, the Commodores have now lost four players to the portal since losing in the first round against St. Mary’s.

Vanderbilt loses guard to the NCAA transfer portal

Vanderbilt guard Karris Bilal plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Joe Tipton confirmed. The Commodores’ season came to an end Friday with a loss to Saint Mary’s in the NCAA Tournament.

Bilal did not make an appearance at Vanderbilt this past season as a true freshman. The Commodores put together an impressive first season under Mark Byington to make the NCAA Tournament, although things ended Friday afternoon with a first-round loss to St. Mary’s.

Bilal played high school basketball at Atlanta (Ga.) Riverwood, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 269 overall player and No. 43-ranked point guard from the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
