Vanderbilt pitching coach Scott Brown was ejected after arguing with officials during the bottom of the fifth inning in a game against Georgia.

After a brief visit to the mound in an inning that had quickly turned into a disaster for the Commodores, Brown was trotting off toward the dugout and had just crossed the third base line when something appeared to be said. Brown immediately changed course and headed for the home plate umpire.

With some aggressive gestures and Brown getting into the umpire’s face, the home plate umpire made the decision to toss Brown from the game.

Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin worked his way to home plate and helped keep Brown from getting into the chest of the umpire, diffusing the situation. Brown eventually retreated to the dugout and exited the game.

The blowup occurred in an inning in which Vanderbilt had already surrendered three runs to Georgia, allowing the Bulldogs to build a 9-4 lead.

After a pair of back-to-back singles to get on base to open the inning, Georgia first baseman Corey Collins stepped to the plate with one out. He absolutely blasted a pitch well over the center field wall to make it a 9-4 contest.

Georgia had once again grabbed all the momentum, after surrendering it in the early going.

The Bulldogs raced out to a 4-0 lead in the contest before allowing the Commodores to claw it back and turn it into a 4-4 game. But the game was halted early in the fourth inning by a weather delay.

At the time of the delay Georgia had the bases loaded with no outs. The Bulldogs would manage to plate two runs from that position once the game resumed, making it 6-4 Georgia.
