The 2024-2025 college football season is only a few short weeks away. And fans across the country simply can’t wait to kick off a new year. The Vanderbilt Commodores gave their fans something to get amped up about on Wednesday evening, after they dropped a special video.

The ‘Dores social media team teased their announcement earlier in the day, before unveiling their all-white uniforms in the video they posted to Twitter.

While Vanderbilt hasn’t yet named their starting quarterback, they happen to have one of the nation’s most electrifying quarterbacks on their roster. Diego Pavia was one of the best running quarterbacks in America and since he was at New Mexico State, flew under the radar nationally. The past two seasons, he did not disappoint, shredding opposing defenses to the tune of over 1,400 total yards and 13 total touchdowns on the ground. As a passer, he carried the Aggies on his back, completing 60.4% of his passes for 2,973 yards, while tossing in 26 touchdowns with nine interceptions.

He was electrifying at New Mexico State, and while he’ll likely be the man under center this fall, he’s still got to beat out Utah transfer quarterback Nate Johnson for the starting job.

Vanderbilt also has some familiar faces from the New Mexico State coaching staff. The ‘Dores hired Jerry Kill, who was the head coach for the Aggies. He was hired in Nashville in January of 2024. Kill will serve as the chief consultant to the head coach and senior offensive advisor. Kill and Pavia were two of the most important ingredients in guiding NMSU to their first 10-win season since 1960. Their bowl win in 2022 was their first postseason win since 2017.

Unfortunately for Pavia, Johnson, and whoever gets under center this fall for Vanderbilt, they lost three of their receivers to the transfer portal this offseason. Will Sheppard (Colorado), London Humphreys (Georgia), and Jayden McGowan (Boston College), have all moved on from Vandy this offseason. Those were the three top targets, but Junior Sherrill and Quincy Skinner are still on the team.

Vanderbilt is lucky enough to have two players that made The Athletic’s “Freaks List” from Bruce Feldman. ‘Dores tight end Eli Stowers checks in at No. 61 on Feldman’s list. Stowers is dripping with athleticism. In high school, he became a Texas 6A state high jump champion. Standing at 6-foot-4, 239 pounds, he recently posted a vertical leap of 41.5 inches and even broad jumped 10 feet, 8 inches this offseason. Stowers transferred to Vanderbilt from New Mexico State this offseason.

Another transfer that should make an impact for Vanderbilt this fall is Kolbey Taylor, a former defensive back for the Wyoming Cowboys. He checks in at No. 44 on Bruce Feldman’s list. Some coaches have compared him to Tariq Woolen. Last year for the Cowboys, Taylor had 29 tackles with seven pass breakups. He broad jumped 11 feet, 2 inches last year, but jumped 10 feet 8 inches this offseason. Taylor also posted a vertical leap of 38.6 inches.

Vandy fans will hope the infusion of freakish athleticism can help to turn around their fortunes on the gridiron. They won just two games last year. And the schedule won’t be easy out of the gates, as the ‘Dores have to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies to open up the 2024 campaign.
