Devin Askew has made his way around college basketball with four programs through five seasons. Now, he has committed to his fifth and final team for his last year of eligibility.

Askew has committed to Villanova out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. That comes per reporting by On3’s Joe Tipton in conversations with his representation. Askew and Endurance Sports have since made those announcements that he will be a Wildcat.

Askew is coming off his latest stop at a mid-major with Long Beach State after seasons spent at three program at the power level with California, Texas, and Kentucky. He has appeared in 110 career games, 71 of those being starts, with averages of 9.8 points (38.4% FG, 33.1% 3PT), 2.9 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. That includes the career-best year he just had with the Beach where he posted 18.9 points (40.1% FG, 37.6% 3PT), 4.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals as an honorable mention for All-Big West.

A Sacramento native, Askew played his high school basketball at Mater Dei in Santa Ana. He was the No. 30 overall recruit there as a four-star in the 2020 cycle. He also rated as the No. 6 combo guard and the No. 6 player out of the state of California. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’d then commit to John Calipari at UK as part of a class of six signees for the Wildcats that rated at No. 1 in the nation in ’20.

Askew, though, would transfer after one season in Lexington and transfer again after one season in Austin. Then, after playing in 19 games over two seasons in Berkeley, he transferred again to Long Beach. With a waiver from the pandemic as well as a medical redshirt, that brings Askew to a sixth and final year in college that he’ll spend back on the east coast with him coming to Pennsylvania.

Per the latest update to On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players, Askew is the No. 443 overall player and is the No. 40 combo guard. That had him as the No. 10 combo guard still available at the time.

Now, Askew is the latest portal transaction amidst the coaching change at ‘Nova. He’s the fifth commitment to the program, now under Kevin Willard, alongside Duke Brennan (Grand Canyon), Braden Pierce (Maryland), Zion Stanford (Temple), and Bryce Lindsay (James Madison). That’s with seven players also transferring from last season’s roster for the Wildcats.
