Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas three-star defensive lineman Jason Hammond announced his commitment to Virginia on Saturday. He chose the Cavaliers over multiple programs, including Iowa State, Maryland and Ole Miss.

Hammond is the No. 1,079 overall prospect and No. 113 defensive lineman in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 153 player in Florida.

A 6-foot-2, 285-pound recruit, Hammond is the 17th high school player in Virginia’s 2023 recruiting class. He is also one of two defensive lineman alongside Highland Springs (Va.) three-star Miles Greene.

The Cavaliers’ group ranks No. 61 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 12 in the ACC. Tappahannock (Va.) Essex three-star linebacker Kamren Robinson, the No. 434 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus, is Virginia’s highest-rated commit.

Hammond has an On3 NIL Valuation of $5.3K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
