Former Louisville offensive lineman Monroe Mills has committed to Virginia, via the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Pete Nakos. Mills only spent one season at Louisville after spending two years at Texas Tech and another two years at Oklahoma State.

In his lone season with the Cardinals, Mills made 11 appearances. He only gave up one sack this season while allowing seven pressures. In his five collegiate seasons, Mills has amassed 2,335 snaps. He’s allowed just four career sacks. He’s spent time at both right and left tackle.

Monroe Mills played high school football at Father Tolton Catholic (MO), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,434 overall player and No. 150 offensive tackle in the 2020 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Despite Mills’ lackluster ranking coming out of high school, he was a highly-valued commodity in the portal this offseason. He was the No. 7 player and No. 1 offensive tackle to enter the portal, according to On3’s 2025 Transfer Portal Player Rankings.

He is the 13th player Virginia has added in the transfer portal this offseason. The team has also lost 16 players, landing at No. 32 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings.

Mills will provide an instant boost to Virginia’s offensive line, which struggled at times this season. The Cavaliers allowed 47 sacks this season, the third-most in the ACC. In comparison, led by Mills, Louisville gave up just 15 sacks in the 2024 campaign.

Virginia finished this season with 5-7 overall record and a 3-5 mark in conference play. While it was far from a soaring success, it was an improvement for the Cavaliers, who finished with just three wins in their first two seasons under Tony Elliott.

After Virginia’s season-ending loss to Virginia Tech, Elliott reflected on the Cavaliers’ season while looking toward the future.

“A lot of it is things that we can control that we got to go to work on, and I got to coach better, the staff has to coach better, and we got to continue to to improve our football team,” Elliot said.

The transfer portal officially opened on Dec. 7 and closed on Dec. 28, though players on teams still playing in the postseason will get an additional five-day window to enter the portal after their seasons end.
