Virginia attempting to turn the page
While the story of the 2022 season was expected to be about Tony Elliott in his first season as head coach, a November shooting involving five of his football players cast a dark cloud over the program. Three players died and two others were injured in the shooting that drew national headlines. A month ago, Elliott spoke publicly and shared how his team is handling the situation.
“It feels like it’s a nightmare, to be honest with you, and I’m ready for somebody to pinch me and wake me up and say that this didn’t happen,” Elliott said during a news conference, according to ESPN. “You prepare for this job, [but] there is no chapter on something like this,” said Elliott, a former Clemson offensive coordinator. “So I am just trying to figure out how to be strong for these young men.”
