North Texas Mean Green transfer quarterback Chandler Morris is taking his talents to Virginia, committing to join the Cavaliers via the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed.

Morris cited a respect for Tony Elliott and a chance to make a real impact with Virginia as deciding factors:

“Coach Elliot is a guy I grew up admiring and could always see myself playing for,” the transfer quarterback stated, via Nakos. “There are a lot of places you could just go and play one year of football, but I felt at Virginia I could make a real impact and help them take things to the next level.”

The quarterback impressed during this past season with North Texas. ESPN’s Pete Thamel noted Morris finished No. 4 nationally with 31 TD passes, behind only Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward and Cade Klubnik. He has one year of eligibility remaining, so Virginia will be looking to make the most of it.

As a recruit, Morris high school football at Highland Park (TX), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 630 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Virginia finished 5-7 in 2024, but they showed some promise at times. They’re hoping the addition of Chandler Morris ends up being the missing piece for the Cavaliers in 2025.
