Wednesday night’s baseball game between the Virginia Cavaliers and VMI Keydets is currently in a weather delay, according to the Virginia Twitter account. It’s been quite rainy and cloudy all day in Charlottesville.

The start of Wednesday night’s game was originally slated 3 p.m. EST, before being moved back to 5 p.m. EST. But it appears that start time of the game has been pushed back. Tuesday’s game between Virginia and VMI was postponed to Wednesday because of weather. There’s been a pretty substantial amount of rain and storms in the area in the past few days.

The Virginia baseball Twitter page updated the start time for Wednesday night’s game and it is currently set for 6:30 p.m EST.

Around 6 p.m. EST, the tarp was officially pulled off Davenport Field.

Virginia Cavaliers 2023 finish and 2024 season outlook

The Virginia Cavaliers are currently ranked as one of the top 15 teams in America and the ‘Hoos are still undefeated with a 7-0 overall record heading into Wednesday night’s matchup. The Cavaliers are coming off a trip to Omaha in the 2023 College World Series, the sixth such trip in program history. All of those have come under Cavaliers head coach Brian O’Connor, who has done remarkable things with their baseball program.

With their win over the Iowa Hawkeyes, Virginia got their first win over a ranked non-conference opponent in the regular season since May 7, 2014 against then No. 22 Liberty Flames. When they defeated Auburn, the Cavaliers moved to 7-0 for the eighth time under Brian O’Connor. Virginia has trailed in six of their seven wins this season.

Harrison Didawick currently leads Virginia in home runs (3) and then Henry Ford (2) and Griff O’Ferrall (2) aren’t far behind. Henry Godbout currently leads the team in doubles (6). After their series with the VMI Keydets, the Cavaliers will take on the UMass Minutemen in a three-game series in Charlottesville. That one begins on Friday, March 1st. They’ll play on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Griff O’Ferrall was a critical piece to Virginia’s run to the 2023 College World Series. He was one of the nation’s top shortstops and became the first Cavalier to ever be named a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award. The award is given to the nation’s top shortstop. Not only did he earn third team All-American honors as a sophomore, but he was also named first team All-ACC in 2023.
