Virginia infielder Eric Becker enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Virginia infielder Eric Becker has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. The soon-to-be former Cavaliers athlete is in with a do not contact tag.
In 2024, Becker was named to the ACC All-Freshman team. He was ranked as the No. 42 shortstop in the country and was the No. 4 overall player in New Jersey according to Perfect Game as a recruit.
This past season, Becker batted .368 with 74 hits in 201 ABs. He hit nine home runs and drove in 52 RBIs, as well. His biggest improvement was going from hitting nine doubles in 2024 to 21 in 2025.
Regardless, 2024-25 was majorly disappointing and out of character for Virginia, and Eric Becker is jumping ship. We’ll see if a new-look Cavs team can return the team to the standard they try to reach year-in and year-out next season.
Eric Becker latest Virginia player to enter transfer portal
Eric Becker wasn’t the only Cavalier to enter the portal this week. Virginia freshman James Nunnallee has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal with a “do not contact” tag. He was a utility player for Virginia this past season, playing in the outfield, infield and behind home plate as the team’s catcher.

In 142 at-bats this season, Nunnallee recorded a .296/.407/.401 slash line. He finished his debut campaign with 42 hits, including 12 doubles and a home run, for 26 RBI’s. He also took 18 walks in comparison to striking out 13 times.
James Nunnallee played high school baseball at Lightridge (VA). He was the No. 291 overall player and No. 54 outfielder in the 2024 recruiting cycle, according to Perfect Game.
Nunallee will be far from the last Virginia player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. After the Cavaliers didn’t receive an NCAA Tournament bid, longtime head coach Brian O’Connor accepted an offer to take over at Mississippi State.
