Virginia Cavaliers infielder Henry Ford has entered the Transfer Portal. He primarily played first base for the Cavaliers during his time with the program.

Ford came into the 2025 season as a Preseason Second Team All-American, according to Perfect Game. That came following as 2024 season where he was named to the Freshman All-American Team by Perfect Game, NCBWA, and D1Baseball. Ford also made the 2023-24 ACC Honor Roll.

In high school, Ford played for St. Anne’s-Belfield in Charlottesville before transferring to the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He’d be named two time All-State, All-Region selection and was named the D2 East Region Hitter of the Year. On top of that, he was ranked the 19th-overall prospect in Virginia and the 4th-ranked shortstop by Perfect Game.

In 111 career games over two seasons with Virginia, Ford hit .348 with a .414 OBP and a .587 slugging percentage. That’s a 1.001 OPS. He did that on the back of 28 career home runs, 115 RBIs, and 22 doubles. Defensively, he’s committed four career errors on a 0.994 fielding percentage.

During Ford’s time with Virginia, the Cavaliers played in the College World Series in 2024 before missing the NCAA Tournament in 2025. That 2025 season saw the Cavaliers go 32-18 overall and 16-11 in ACC play.

Following the season, Virginia also lost head coach Brian O’Connor who took the Mississippi State job once the Bulldogs were officially eliminated from the postseason. He had been at Virginia since 2004, going to the College World Series six times and winning the national championship in 2015. Now, the Cavaliers must begin the search for their next head coach.

Mississippi State fired former head coach Chris Lemonis in the middle of the season. He had previously led Mississippi State to the 2021 national championship. That was the first in program history. Still, they’d also go on to make the NCAA Tournament.

Henry Ford is one of several Virginia players who have already entered the Transfer Portal this offseason. Pitcher Evan Blanco and utility player James Nunnallee both already entered the portal as well. Nunnallee did so with a “do not contact” tag set on him. That implies he already knows the program he plans to transfer to.

The On3 Transfer Portal Instagram account and Twitter account are excellent resources to stay up to date with the latest moves.
