Mississauga (Ontario) Clarkson Football North three-star EDGE Ishmael Findlayter has committed to Virginia Tech. He announced the news on social media.

Findlayter is the No. 1,191 overall prospect and No. 90 EDGE in the 2023 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 rates him even higher as the No. 57 EDGE in the 2023 class.

The 6-foot-3.5, 230 pound pass rusher is now the 18th member of the Hokies’ 2023 recruiting class. The group currently ranks No. 50 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 11 in the ACC.

Findlayter, who chose Virginia Tech over offers from Arizona State and Vanderbilt among others, is the second EDGE prospect committed to Virginia Tech alongside Richmond (Va.) Freeman three-star Jason Abbey. Other defensive prospects committed to the Hokies include Indianapolis (Ind.) Decatur Central three-star linebacker Aycen Stevens, Greenville (S.C.) Powdersville three-star safety Thomas Williams and Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episcopal School three-star cornerback Cameren Fleming.

Following Findlayter’s pledge, Virginia Tech only has one August commitment so far. The Hokies notched five recruits last month in Williams, Fleming, Highland Springs (Va.) three-star safety Braylon Johnson, Richmond (Va.) Collegiate School three-star wide receiver Krystian Williams and Middlesex (N.C.) Southern Nash three-star athlete Tralon Mitchell.

Virginia Tech also earned four commitments in June from Stevens, Charleston (W.V.) George Washington three-star interior offensive lineman Layth Ghannam, Haymarket (Va.) Battlefield three-star linebacker Caleb Woodson and Appomattox (Va.) Appomattox County three-star linebacker Tavorian Copeland. Ghannam is currently the highest-ranked member of the Hokies’ 2023 class as the No. 527 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus.

Findlayter has an On3 NIL Valuation of $5.9K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
