Derek Dixon, a four-star prospect in the 2025 class, will be taking an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech on Monday night to see them take on rival Virginia.

The 6-foot-4 point guard out of Gonzaga High School in D.C. holds an offer from the Hokies, along with schools like Syracuse, Virginia, Villanova, Pitt, Penn State, Iowa, Miami, and others.

In an interview with Dixon last month, he said that four schools were recruiting him the hardest — Virginia, Villanova, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh. Keep in mind, the recruiting process is fluid and things can change on a weekly, if not daily, basis.

Dixon is ranked as the No. 69 overall prospect in the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings.

Future visits?

Dixon’s recruitment is wide-open and he says there are several schools he’d like to take a trip to in the future.

“I have an offer from Miami and they’ve mentioned getting me down on a visit at some point,” Dixon said previously. “Iowa, I feel like would be a cool visit. They’ve offered me. West Virginia has talked to me about getting me down on a visit. Stanford has started recruiting me recently, same with Kansas. They’ve talked about visits.”

What he’s looking for in a college

While he’s still a ways away from a commitment, Derek Dixon knows what he’s looking for at the next level.

“A good relationship with the coaching staff. Them trusting me and my abilities and me having trust in them. The system, the style they play, I like to play fast. I like to play a lot of pick-and-roll, a lot of movement. The feel of the campus, a welcoming place.”

Dixon’s timeline for a decision

Dixon is in no rush to make a decision, but he does have a loose timetable for when he wants to knock it out by.

“I’m definitely going to wait until after the AAU season to see if I get any new schools recruiting me. So probably at the end of summer or early fall I would guess.”
