4-star WR Keylen Adams commits to Virginia Tech: 'This is my final decision'
Virginia Beach (Va.) Green Run four-star wide receiver Keylen Adams came down to South Carolina and Virginia Tech.
The Gamecocks made a hard run at the No. 183 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, but the in-state program ultimately won out, with Adams announce his commitment to the Hokies on Thursday.
“I chose Virginia Tech because of the bond I have with the coaches and the people there,” he said. “It is a true family environment there. They have great chemistry and I love the vision Coach Brent Pry has for the program. The coaches know me well, my mom feels comfortable with me there, and I love the players they are bringing in and the direction the program is going.”
After his official visit to South Carolina early in June, Adams thought long and hard about committing to Shane Beamer and Co. But he held off and took more visits, including another trip back to Blacksburg. Once he’d finally seen each program, he knew which one he wanted to be part of.
“South Carolina was the biggest competition, and after my official visit there, I thought hard about them,” he said. “But it really has always been Virginia Tech for me. I had an idea I was going there when I was on campus in March, but I took my visits and looked at different places. And after my official visit to Virginia Tech, it was final.”
Virginia Tech has been recruiting him for more than three years
In total, Adams has been on the in-state school’s campus five times as a recruit. Virginia Tech was the second school to extend an offer to him, and they’ve been recruiting him since he was a ninth-grader. The longstanding connection was important not only for him, but also his mom.
“Me and my family like Coach Pry a lot.” Adams said. “It was my decision, but I love the fact my mom likes him; that is big for me too. She trusts him, so that stood out to me. He always has great energy and enthusiasm, and it is always good vibes from Coach Pry.”
Adams is also excited about what Pry is building, especially this 2024 recruiting class, which currently features two other On300 prospects.

“They want to get Virginia Tech back to where it was before,” he said. “To do that, they want to get the best in Virginia to go to Virginia Tech. They are doing a great job so far. I know a lot of guys in this class, I know guys on the team and the vibe feels like family already.”
Keylan Adams is locked in
After going through the process, Adams is 100 percent set with his commitment. He took his time, visited the schools he wanted to see and is now set with the Hokies.
“I am locked in with my commitment,” he added. “I almost committed in March, but I waited, I took more time and I wanted to make sure. This is my final decision. I am about loyalty, and the only visits I will be taking now are back to Virginia Tech for games in the fall.”
The message he hears from the coaching staff and other recruits has resonated, and he wants to get Virginia Tech back to its place as one of the best programs in the ACC.
“The message is always the same; get Virginia Tech back to where it used to be,” he said. “From the time Coach Pry got there, that has been his message to me. I see it, I like it and I believe it. That message stuck with me.”
