Brent Pry fired up after Virginia Tech's dominant first half performance vs. Virginia
The Virginia Tech Hokies simply dominated the Virginia Cavaliers in every way, shape, and form in the first half on Saturday night. The Cavalier offense couldn’t get much of anything going because the Hokie defenders were constantly in the backfield.
And the Virginia Tech receivers were torching the Virginia secondary as well, to the tune of a 24-0 lead after the first half. Following their dominant performance, Hokies head coach Brent Pry was fired up about his squad’s performance in the rivalry game.
He spoke with Sherree Burruss of the ACC Network before his team took the field in the second half.
“Brent Pry [was] running over to me for our halftime interview, pumping his fist in the air. I asked him, ‘Why are you so excited?’ He said, ‘We did so many good things in the first half. One of them being that defensive stop at the end of the half.
“He said in games past, the defense might not have made that stop. But he knows how resilient this UVA team is, so, we need to keep that stand as UVA is back out on offense. Also stay aggressive on offense. Get ready to feed Bhayshul Tuten more here in the second half,” Burruss noted of her conversation with Pry.

Virginia Tech continued to pour it on in the second half, dishing out one of the worst beatdowns in the history of the rivalry, 55-17. The Hokies scored 24 points in the third quarter. They clearly took Virginia quarterback Anthony Colandrea’s pregame comments personally and it showed on the field.
Hokies quarterback Kyron Drones racked up over 290 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in the win. Speedster Bhayshul Tuten also gashed the Cavalier defense to the tune of over 200 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. One of those scores was an impressive 94-yard kick return for touchdown.
The Hokies looked like they didn’t belong in the same state as the Cavaliers, let alone the same football field. Virginia Tech has dominated the rivalry in the past 20 years, winning 18 of the last 19 meetings. There are few teams in college football that have dominated their rivals quite like the Hokies have dominated the Cavaliers over the years.
With the win, Virginia Tech became officially bowl eligible. They sit at 6-6 overall and 5-3 in the ACC. Virginia fell to 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the ACC, with their biggest win of the season coming on the road against UNC. Their season is officially finished.
