In Week 7, the Virginia Tech Hokies will host Wake Forest in a matchup of ACC teams attempting to finish 2023 bowl-eligible. But most importantly, it is the Hokies homecoming game.

With Saturday’s matchup being Virginia Tech’s homecoming, the campus will likely be filled with alumni and star players alike. As they prepare to take on Wake Forest, head coach Brent Pry shared what he believes are the benefits of having former players back on campus this weekend.

“Yeah, we always want those guys back. It’s awesome when they come back; try and get them around the team, around our players, in the office,” said Pry. “We want to roll out the orange and maroon carpet for that group. This place is more their place than it is mine.

“There’s such a strong legacy here, particularly under Coach [Frank] Beamer. And those guys coming back and talking about the championships and the wins and the standards and the expectations. That’s really healthy for our program. So it’s exciting to think about them being back in town this weekend.”

In the early 2000s, legendary Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer consistently had the Hokies in the national championship picture. While spearheading the program, he led the Hokies to several Big East, their former conference home, and ACC championships. Virginia Tech also had a national championship game berth in 2000 behind the stellar play of legendary Hokies quarterback Michael Vick

Having players from arguably the best stretch in Virginia Tech football history on campus inspiring the current roster could go a long way to helping the Hokies come out of Saturday’s contest victorious.

Pry addresses challenges of playing in poor weather

Virginia Tech‘s Week 7 matchup with Wake Forest is forecasted to be a wet and rainy day. And that means head coach Brent Pry has had his team preparing for the likely poor weather conditions they will face on Saturday. But who is getting the work in, and what are they doing to prepare for the wet weather conditions? According to Pry, his focus has been primarily on the offense.

“They already did wet ball work today. The receivers did. I would think the running backs and quarterbacks got theirs in. But we’ll do it all week just to make sure we’re ready for it,” said Pry

This year, Virginia Tech has found balance in their offense between their passing game and rushing attack. On the season, quarterbacks Kyron Drones and Grant Wells have combined for 1,215 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions. And receiving-wise, Virginia Tech has five pass catchers with at least 10 receptions in triple-digit receiving yards this season.
