New Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry is facing numerous challenges as he transitions into his new role. One of the key challenges is managing roster turnover in the transfer portal era. This makes it easy for players to move on from a roster, and this tends to happen during coaching changes. Virginia Tech was no different.
Brent Pry had a message for the players who chose to stay with Virginia Tech. It was one of appreciation.
“I think these guys are a great example,” Brent Pry said. “I couldn’t be more proud of them. That’s why they’re here today with us. Great leaders. A ton of maturity. Have really worked through a lot of adversity. It’s not easy to go through a coaching change. Especially one that happens during the season.”
“My hats off to these guys, and they’ve embraced myself, our new staff. They’ve been very positive, very supportive, and that’s what it takes. We’re in this thing together. We’re supporting one another with the task at hand.”

Brent Pry knows that it’s going to be difficult to bring Virginia Tech back to its glory days under Frank Beamer. It’s a job he’s excited about, though. He explained why he took the job, saying, “It’s not for everybody, but it was definitely for me. It was for these guys. It’s a genuine place. Didn’t have to pretend to be somebody wasn’t.”
“We’ve got really good young men in our program, and I’m excited about the experience and maturity that we have,” Brent Pry finished.
